For a fun-filled day head for Aqualand in Maspalomas, the largest water park in the Canary Islands. Thanks to the the constant balmy temperature of the island Aqualand is open all year round. Spread over a sprawling area of 90,000 sq metres, the park includes 13 attractions and 33 water slides.

Without doubt, the star attraction of Aqualand is the opportunity to swim with sealions. Each swimming session is conducted under the guidance of a trainer and the small group size makes for a great interactive session with these amazing marine creatures.

And those us that are sensitive to the environment, will also enjoy this sport, since the fish that are caught, aren’t always served for dinner. Catch and release is the order of the day, and oft times, after catching a big fish, the fish are fitted with identity tags, their vital signs are recorded and then they released back in to the ocean. How noble is that?

The market is big. In fact, it’s very big! There's a large variety of things for sale including jewellery, souvenirs, Canarian pottery, Canarian cooking ingredients, Canarian homemade tablecloths, clothing, accessories such as belts and socks.

Puerto de Mogan provides a beautiful backdrop to the market, Called “Little Venice” by the locals, there are waterways and quaint little houses.

Feel free to haggle over the prices too. In fact, it is expected. Even if something is marked “5 euros” it does no harm to suggest, “I'll give you 4 euros for this?” – sometimes it actually works.

Mogan market is open from 9am until 2pm. You get the Salmon ferry from Puerto Escala in Puerto Rico at 9.30am, 10am or 11am.
